I think inspiration is a beautiful and brilliant thing that I find people consistently using a speaking point about the death of originality. I do believe that using the mantra “nothing is original anymore” is a quitter’s point of view; or at the very least, an excuse to put down people from trying. Throughout my entire academic life, I feel like I’ve heard the specific idea in every single class I’ve taken at some point. I understand the argument– if there’s much one at all– that everything has some sort of similarity with something else, but my problem comes from the idea that it feels more negative than anything positive.
It’s said with a certain insinuation; that it’s an obligation that people must understand that nothing they can make will be “truly original”. I don’t care for the way it’s said; whether it’s writing professors or philosophers, if not approached in the right way can influence writers into choosing a more “popular” path, which is something I’ve been against for years (and is the main idea behind what I believe the future of ai will be for artists and writers).
